Living an insatiable life is exhausting. Always moving from one thing to the other, wishing and hoping that we will find inner peace once we have gotten to where we were going. Most of the time we search for inner peace in all the places that it is not.

We look high and we look low. Maybe we think we will find it in a fruitful bank account. Maybe it will be on Aisle number 9 at the store. Just maybe, it will be somewhere online. So many people spend their entire lives searching for and striving for things they think will bring them everlasting peace and happiness.

It is this never-ending search that causes anxiety, grief, stress, and discontentment in the lives of many people. End your search today, and stop looking for peace and happiness in places it cannot be found. Endless peace can only be found within. These are our tips to help you uncover the stillness that is always with you.

6. Learn to Love and Accept Yourself

When we feel restless, it is often because we are not doing something we feel we should be doing. Whether that something is buried deep in your subconscious or at the forefront of your mind, we tend to create expectations and standards for ourselves. Sometimes we even form those thoughts about ourselves based on things others have told us our entire lives.

Instead of feeling like there’s something you could be doing, learn to love, and accept yourself the way you are. Love the way you look, love your name, love your job, your home. Accept your life as if you had chosen it. When you start loving and accepting things about yourself, you will begin to uncover great power within you. No longer will you be fighting things about your existence.

We often try changing things outside of ourselves hoping that they will help us find our inner peace, but they seldom do. Choosing to address the issues you have about yourself will, at the same time, fix many of the issues you deal with outside of yourself. The greatest war you could ever win is the war deep within.

5. Practice Gratitude

Being thankful is a simple way to find your inner peace. The reason is when you consciously practice gratitude you are focusing on the positive aspects of things that surround you. Anxiety and Stress often cause us to think about everything that is wrong and difficult in our lives. Learning to look out for and continually think about the wonderful things happening in your life is one way to put anxious and stress-induced thoughts behind you.

We recommend keeping a gratitude journal and spend at least 3-5 minutes a day writing down 3 things you are thankful for. It is most helpful to do this at the beginning of your day, as it helps you start your day on the right foot.

4. Remember Life is a Journey

If you look at a bustling city, just about everyone you see is “on the go.” They are trying to get to work. Maybe they are on their way home. Perhaps they are headed for a vacation destination, out for groceries, shopping, or what have you. Once one destination is reached, they are headed for the next. Into the shower at home, to their desk at work, to aisle number 8 at the store, and the list goes on.

Are you one of those individuals? Someone who hopes they will find inner peace once they get where they are going? It’s okay if you are, you are not alone. As Buddha said “There is no path to happiness. Happiness is the path.” You will not find your inner peace at the end of your journey. You must open your eyes along the way, and realize that you can experience peace with every step you take. Life in itself is an experience, not a destination.

3. Acknowledge Your Fears

In life, we make decisions either based on love or fear. Nothing more, and nothing less. As an example, people who are anxious tend to make decisions based on the fear of running out of time. People who are stressed will often make decisions based on the fear of failing. When you go about your daily life, stop and ask yourself “Am I making this decision out of love, or fear?” Are you buying those vegetables in the store because you love to eat those vegetables, or because you’re afraid if you don’t eat them you won’t be healthy?

When you make decisions based on love, you are allowing your inner peace to guide you through life. Love is the most powerful way we can express ourselves. It is a way of letting your light shine on the world and showing everyone who you really are.

2. Realize Your Soul is Infinite

At your deepest essence, you are energy. Some people call this your soul, or your aura. A lot of the time we identify our names and our bodies as representing who we really are. However, these are just things that represent the energy that you are. As long as you identify your deepest self as your body here on earth, you will feel as though life is fleeting and finite. Yes, your name and your body will die, but the energy within you will continue on.

Your life energy did not begin when your body was born, and it will not end when your body dies. Energy is everlasting, as it cannot be created, nor destroyed. It will transfer through the eons, and throughout the universe, infinitely. You are everlasting because you are this energy.

1. Find Your Power

When you begin to realize that life is all just an experience, and all you ever have is the present moment, you can start using the power within you. Sometimes it is hard to let go of a past that you cannot change. It is even difficult to stop living without constantly thinking about what tomorrow will bring. The future and the past are both things that will only ever exist in our minds. All we ever have is right now. What you choose to do right now, is how you choose to live your life.

Choose to live your life here, not stuck in some memory, and not ten steps ahead. Be present where you are and you will find your inner peace. It is okay if being present is something you have not practiced doing before. Anyone can start, at any time.
