Are you someone who is easily mesmerized by videos of zen garden patterns or zen garden designs? It’s okay I am too. They’re such a peaceful past time and allow for a creative outlet and stress reliever. Zen gardens are perfect to keep at your desk, on your coffee table (if you don’t have kids), on your side table, or any flat surface to be honest.
I don’t know about you but I’ve never seen a zen garden for purchase anywhere, but then again maybe I’m just not going into the right places. Anyhow, I decided it was probably cheaper, faster and higher quality if I were to just make my own.
How to Begin
First I started by purchasing a piece of wall art that was on sale from Hobby Lobby and made sure it had a thick and deep frame. Then I went to the dollhouse craft section at hobby lobby and picked up a set of tiny gardening tools. I also made sure to pick up some duck tape along the way. My last stop was to the pet store where I got some lizard sand at the pet store because this was my closest option to get some sand, (but I mean if you live by the beach I would definitely use that instead). I began by taping the bottom edges of the frame, so that sand wouldn’t fall through the cracks in the frame. Next, I assembled my Zen garden by pouring some sand in, and as an added touch I added some leftover pebbles I had from my small DIY Terrarium project. And there you have it your own Zen garden AKA a real-life etch-a-sketch. Add some crystals and happy designing!
