Making the switch to a natural cleaning recipe for numerous cleaning products in your household is becoming increasingly important for your and your family’s health. Many store-bought cleaning products contain chemicals that can cause short-term and long-term effects on our health. Store-bought glass cleaning products have been linked to things like asthma, allergies, skin irritation, liver damage, lung damage, and even cancer.

Buying store-bought cleaning products just for the sake of convenience is just not worth the negative effects these products can have on my or my family’s health. This is why I have decided to make my own natural cleaning recipe for glass cleaner.

What’s In Your Products?

When you create and make your own cleaning recipe, you know exactly what is going into the bottle. Store-bought cleaning products are not required to release the ingredients in their products. While we can never be too sure what all is in store-bought cleaning products, we know that they likely contain ammonia, butyl cellosolve, or phthalates. These are common ingredients in creating streak-free glass cleaning products.

Though these chemicals may not be especially harmful on their own or even for a single use, the overexposure and prolonged use of these ingredients are what can cause us harm. Store-bought products may quite certainly get the job done, but bringing unnecessary chemicals into my home is not something I am willing to do. There are natural ways to get streak-free glass, without having to compromise my family’s health.

Gather Your Materials and Ingredients

In order to make your own natural glass cleaning recipe, you will need a few things. For starters, you will need a reusable bottle. Reusable cleaning bottles are great for your home, and for the earth.

Next, you will need a funnel! If you are a skilled pourer, then you may not need one. For non-skilled persons who always spill everything, such as myself, a funnel is a must.

Lastly and most importantly you will need cornstarch, vinegar, and alcohol. These are the main ingredients in a natural streak-free glass cleaning recipe. If you wish to add a scent to your cleaning recipe, you may add essential oils of your choosing.

The Recipe

Start by measuring out 1/2 cup of alcohol and pouring it into your bottle. You may use any type of rubbing alcohol, and even vodka will work fine too. Next, add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Lastly, add 1/2 cup of vinegar.

Mix up the ingredients in the bottle well by shaking vigorously. The cornstarch will sometimes settle towards the bottom, but giving it a good shake before each use will easily solve that problem.

My Experience

I have been using this glass cleaning recipe now for a few years and I absolutely love it. It leaves no streaks on my mirrors or my windows and makes them crystal clear.

I originally found this recipe on a blog called one essential community. Their recipe calls for essential oils of course, but I don’t believe they are necessary for a streak-free cleaning recipe. Most of the time I just stick to the three main ingredients and on the occasion, I will add in lemon or orange essential oil for a fresh scent.
