Interested in making a vision board, eh? Well, you have come to the right place. I will say I have been using my own vision board for about a year now, and it is something I wish I had in my life a lot sooner.

Before I had started my vision board I was feeling very stuck in life. I didn’t feel like my life was going in the direction that I wanted and my goals just seemed impossible. It was incredibly frustrating just doing the same old things day in and day out. I was leading myself to the same outcomes I had always ended up with.

When I had created my vision board, it was actually pretty spooky how fast I started reaching my goals. There were  literally a couple of “twilight zone” moments where I was like “there is no way this is really happening…” But it was really happening. Everything I have ever put on my vision board has come into my reality. This could happen to you too. I have no doubt in my mind.

What You Need for a Good Vision Board

So how exactly does a vision board work? There must be some kind of magic or witchcraft involved, right? Well, not exactly. Really it all has to do with the power of your mind.

When you are in the process of creating your vision board, you are forced to decide on one or several things that you want to happen in your life. You then have to visualize your goal. Create something that reminds you of your goal to put on your board. This process of deciding and visualizing what you want to happen in your life narrows your focus on what it is that you really want. Then, keeping this goal in mind day in and day out brings it into your existence.

It has to do a little with science and energy. When you focus intently on one thing and with great consistency, you are essentially solidifying the connection between yourself and that thing. There are infinite possibilities of what we could be doing with our lives. The trouble is we don’t often keep our focus directed on one thing for too long. Additionally, we often focus on things that we don’t like.

In her book about controlling your own energy called E-Squared, Pam Grout explains that we have somewhere around 60,000 thoughts per day and only 2000 of them carry over into the next day. This is why a vision board works. We are focusing our thoughts and energy every day on one or several things until they become our reality.

What You Need for a Good Vision Board

For a vision board, you will be needing several things. First of all, you need some kind of board or space where you can keep your imagery posted. I personally prefer cork board with novelty push pins, just because it has a warmer feeling in my house. I like things to be cozy, forgive me. However, if you prefer, a whiteboard and some fun magnets will work well too. You can also write directly on whiteboards with dry-erase markers, as an added bonus.

Whatever material you decide to create your vision board with, you must make sure it is something you like and something you enjoy. No part of the creation process should feel burdensome. You must approach it with a loving and gracious attitude. If you don’t like your board, you won’t look at it and you won’t focus your attention on it. The whole purpose of the board is to create something you will enjoy looking at, so you will be reminded of your goals.

What Should Be On Your Vision Board

Now for the hard part. Deciding what to put on your board. Try to narrow down between 1-5 things that you really want to happen or obtain in your life. Once you have decided on a specific goal you then must decide how you would like to visualize it for your board.

You could be simple and just write down the word that represents your goal. If you are artsy you could draw a picture of your goal. Or if you aren’t someone who is overly creative you could print out a picture or find a cutout from a magazine of something that represents your goal. It is all up to you. Whatever you decide make sure your image is something you like looking at. I personally go with a combination of words and images. I like to draw an image and then write down 1-2 words reminding me what my goal is.

Manifesting Your Goals

After you have collected and pinned up the imagery of your goals, place your vision board somewhere where it can be seen every day. I like to keep mine by a door, so I can see it every time I enter or exit a room.

Now for the fun part, manifesting your dreams. As you begin to focus daily on your goals, keep an eye out for little signposts directing you towards your goals. Sometimes it is even helpful to give yourself a deadline, like 48 hours, a week, a month to achieve your goal. This way you know to expect something to happen during that specific time frame that aligns with your goals.

My vision board is something that has been incredibly helpful in seeing my dreams brought into my reality. There isn’t anything special required to make this happen. It all has to do with the power of your mind.
