I am so glad you have made it here! Learning how to meditate will benefit you in more ways than you can imagine. You can meditate anywhere, at any time, for as long as or as little as you want.  It may be easier if you are just starting meditation practices to try shorter amounts of time. Build up little by little to longer periods of time as you grow more comfortable with the present moment. I recommend meditation for beginners to start in quiet and isolated places, to help limit distractions as you start to discipline your mind.

The Goal

The primary focus of meditation for beginners is learning to control your thought, or the lack of thought, rather than letting your thought control you. Through meditation, you will learn to better control the way your mind automatically responds to situations. This can be ever so beneficial in all the relationships in your life. Adding in meditation tools such as Tibetan singing bowls, crystals, or music may be added at a later time after you have familiarized yourself with how meditation works. Or, you may start off using all the tools! Really, it is up to you, and you know what is best for you

How To Begin

When you are ready to begin, sit either on the floor in a comfortable position or in a chair with your feet on the floor. Make sure you are sitting up straight, and with your eyes open to begin with. Gradually focus on one thing or one spot and take several slow deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth. Slowly begin to close your eyes, becoming more and more aware of the present moment.

What To Expect

You may begin to feel more aware of your body’s physical connection to the chair or ground you are sitting on. Perhaps you may even begin to become more aware of the endless space of nothingness inside you. Don’t fear the nothingness, it is no lack of sustenance. It is quite the opposite actually. This nothingness is the peace and bliss in which enlightened individuals speak of and teach about. If you are able to become aware of the silent space within you, you have begun to dis-identify with your mind. This is a huge step towards being at peace with the way things are. This is a meditation for beginners.
