There comes a time in life when you start to feel a little stuck. Maybe you are struggling with your career, your financial goals, weight goals, or intimate relationships. Perhaps you aren’t too sure what the cause is. Maybe there is an irresistible itch to just stop what you are currently doing, and do something else. Many of us look to books to read hoping we will find what we’re looking for.

We are all on a journey searching for love and happiness. Often we feel like we will find this in our career, with our bank accounts, after shedding a few pounds or finding the love of our life. The trouble is, even after we achieve all those things, we still are searching for something to fill that void of love and happiness in our lives.

The love and happiness we are searching for cannot be found outside ourselves, yet we still continue to look for it there. To help you find the love and happiness that we are all looking for, I have laid out 5 different books to read. These are books that have helped me with personal growth. These books taught me to look inside myself for the love and happiness I had been searching for all my life.

1. The Power of Now

This was the first book I read that taught me about finding inner peace. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is a book I would recommend for beginners looking for books to readers who are not quite familiar with the idea that happiness comes from within and not without. Eckhart Tolle is an amazing, humbled, and dare I say, enlightened author.

Eckhart abandons his ego, and therefore his mind, and enters what he calls “the now.” The now is something that cannot be experienced by the ego or the mind, because the mind can only exist when focused on the past or the future. Throughout the book, Eckhart explains how being present at the moment gave him an everlasting sense of peace and happiness and that this is the power of now.

For me, this is one of the best books to read because it helped me begin to recognize the inner stillness that was within me. I started to realize just how often my mind was filled with unnecessary thoughts. By gaining control of your conscious awareness, you can choose to be happy and at peace, no matter what situation you are in.

2. E- Squared

E- Squared by Pam Grout is a book that teaches you how to do nine different experiments that will prove your thoughts create your reality. I have to say, this book really opened my eyes to some things. It is not a matter of believing anything, it is simply a matter of knowing that you are in control of reality.

Pam Grout’s experiments are simple and can be accomplished within 21 days. They don’t require much, just an open mind and a willingness to try. These experiments helped me because they showed me on a physical level how my thoughts translate into the physical world. I don’t understand quantum physics all too well, but I do know these energy experiments deal with them.

I do believe this book will help you find the power within yourself to accomplish great things and find the happiness you are looking for.

3. Power VS Force

This book is something more along the lines of an academic read. For that reason, it is a little bit harder to get through. Power VS Force was written by author and doctor David Hawkins. This book explains how everyone, no matter how different you look, where you come from, or what you believe, has access to a greater consciousness. Through this, you can access the truth about anything you could ever want to know.

To put it simply, David Hawkins used kinesiology to access a greater consciousness to test the truth or falsehood of any particular claim.

David Hawkins created what he termed the map of consciousness. This map of consciousness measures the level of the vibrational frequency of different feelings, thoughts, and ideas. The higher the vibration, the more truth there is in the feeling, idea, or thought. The same goes in the opposite direction, the lower the vibration, the stronger is the falsehood of the claim.

I find this to be one of the best books to read for personal development because it helped me realize the greater oneness that is within us all. It also helped me understand how our thoughts create our world by transmitting vibrational energy.

4. Stillness Speaks

This is one of my favorite books to read and I keep going back to it for personal growth. Stillness Speaks is another book by Eckhart Tolle. This book has easy-to-understand concepts, practices, and experiments that are all laid out in short paragraphs. The book is meant to be read over a period of several days or even weeks.

Stillness speaks presents similar ideas as those in The Power of Now, however, this book is more focused on helping you find peace within yourself through inner reflection. Eckhart presents concepts in this book that are meant to get you to think about the way you perceive things.

This book has helped me tremendously in expanding my conscious awareness and gaining control over my thoughts. As you gain control of your thoughts, you can start to shape the world around you with great ease. This is how people like Eckhart Tolle, Pam Grout, Myself, David Hawkins, Neale Donald Walsch, and many others have found peace and happiness.

5. Conversations with God

This is a pretty thick read, but it is well worth your time. Despite its title, this book is not based on any one particular religious dogma. Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch is a book written in a question-and-answer format. It is simply what the title suggests, the author is having a conversation with God. Walsch poses a question, and God answers honestly.

With this book, the notion of believing vs knowing became increasingly clear to me. Some things you “believe,” which means by definition something you accept as truth. As an example, you could say it is 2:00 pm and you believe that because as a society we believe in time and that clocks tell us what time it is. To a dog, time does not exist. A dog does not believe in time.

On the contrary, some things you “know”, which means by definition to access knowledge within you. Consider the feeling a parent gets when they know something is wrong with their child. The child may not have said or shown any signs of something being wrong, but the parent has accessed a deeper sense of knowledge greater than themselves to determine that this is something they know.

This book taught me that there is an inner guide within ourselves that has the answers to all of our problems. All we have to do is listen.

Well, Now What?

Any one of these 5 books to read will do wonders for personal development and self-growth. These books have helped me find and harness the power within me to start creating the world around me.
