The seasons are beginning to change. Leaves start to fall, temperatures get cooler, and those beautiful oranges, reds, and browns are everywhere we look. Or at least so I’ve been told!

In Texas, fall is just an extension of summer. Nothing really changes here. The leaves start to crisp up from the unbearable heat long before they ever have the chance to change colors. The only real feeling of fall we get in Texas is when we are out on the town. With the beautiful fall decor in our shopping centers, the warm scents of fall diffuser blends, and the delicious pumpkin treats in our local restaurants, this is when we begin to feel as if fall has arrived.

While the trees outside my windows don’t look like all those fall pictures we see, there is no reason my house can’t smell like I opened the door to fall! This is when I bust out my essential oils for fall diffuser blends!

What Are Fall Scents?

Most of us just instinctively know what fall smells like. It’s kind of like you know it when you smell it. It can sometimes be hard to pinpoint exactly what those fall smells actually are though.

Usually, the smells we associate with fall are those we connect to memories. We remember that during this time there is an increase in pumpkin spice everything. We might also remember those late-night campfires with our friends and family, with those warm woodsy smells. This is why you often see that fall diffuser blends with their clever names like “pumpkin pie”, “fall walk”, or “apple cider.”

Because these certain activities and flavors are at their peak during fall, we tend to remember those smells the most. This is also why these things we associate with fall are so heavily marketed to us. Naturally, with all the fall thoughts and memories being created, there are certain key smells we connect to this time of year.

How to Recreate Fall Smells

Now, it’s not unreasonable for us to want to recreate those smells without baking a whole pumpkin pie or lighting a campfire.  The trick is to know the individual components that make up those fall scents. With these individual scents, you can recreate as many fall diffuser blends as your heart desires!

By mixing just a few individual essential oils, you can bring fall scents into your home in a matter of seconds. The easiest way I do this is by using my essential oil diffuser. If you don’t yet have an essential oil diffuser I recommend this one. Check out this article for more information on choosing your diffuser.

The individual essential oils I find best for fall smells are listed below

With the eight essential oils, I listed above, you can make nearly any fall diffuser blends you would like! Combining the oils where things really start to get fun. Personally, I suggest you experiment with your own combinations to see what reminds you of fall the most.

Fall Diffuser Blends

If you absolutely need a place to start, here is what I do for my blends. When I’m looking for a general fall scent I will start with about 5 drops of sweet orange and then add in about 3 drops of either ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, or clove. If I’m looking for a pumpkin spice kind of scent, I will mix clove, cinnamon, sweet orange, and ginger. When I want it to smell like apple cider, I will do about 5 drops of ginger, a few drops of nutmeg, and a few drops of sweet orange. If I am looking for something more woodsy, I will mix sweet orange with lavender and either sandalwood or frankincense.

Ginger, clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg mixed with the sweet orange will give you an overall scent reminiscent of a fall baked good. The lavender, frankincense, and sandal will create those more woodsy smells you might be familiar with if you spend a lot of time outdoors in the fall.
