Do you struggle to remove your eye makeup? So much so, you have tiny bits of eye makeup leftover on your eyes a days after you wore that waterproof mascara? You probably come out of the shower looking like a raccoon, don’t you? It’s okay, I do too.  I struggled for years having dark under eyes, simply because my eye makeup would just not come off. This is why I have decided to share how I discovered Coconut Oil to be an effective eye makeup remover!

Coconut Oil as Eye Makeup Remover

I was tired of never being able to get all my eye makeup off. So, I began the search for a natural eye makeup remover. Of course, most of what came up was how to remove your makeup altogether. After watching several videos, I found that some people use extra virgin coconut oil as a makeup remover.

With coconut oil being, well oil, I preferred not to test that one out on my whole face in fear of a massive breakout. I decided to try out coconut oil just as an eye makeup remover, for one to see if it worked and for two to see if it burned the eyes.

Bingo Bango my friends. Not only does coconut oil effectively remove all of my eye makeup waterproof or otherwise, but it also helped grow and strengthen my eyelashes! Nowadays, I wear a lot less makeup than I used to, choosing to embrace my own natural beauty (and you should too). However, I do still use coconut oil for my eyes almost daily as either an eye makeup remover or to grow my eyelashes.

Gathering the Materials

To start this easy Do It Yourself beauty project you are going to need a few things. First, you need a container for storage! Below  I have provided links to my favorite storage jars for my DIY beauty products. I prefer either a 4 oz Mason Jar or a 2 oz Mason Jar. Typically smaller jars like these come in packs, so you can use the others for things like DIY Sugar Lip Scrub!

Now after choosing your storing container, you want to choose your oil! I personally go with the extra virgin coconut oil, as it is usually organic. When I first started out, I would just use coconut oil by itself as an eye makeup remover. Nowadays, I like to add in a little more variety to my eye makeup remover mix to strengthen my lashes. This is why I usually pick out some Vitamin E Oil for my mix, as well. Below are two recommended brands for Coconut Oil and Vitamin E Oil for your DIY Eye Makeup Remover.

How to Make It

After all your materials are gathered you can begin! First start by heating a pot of water on the stove. Then using a 3:1 ratio, I scoop out 3 parts coconut oil and then add in 1 part of Vitamin E oil and add it to bowl or large cup. For those of you who need actual measurments, I would say for every 3 Tablespoons of coconut oil add 1 tablespoon of Vitamin E oil. If you are making a smaller batch, that would be 3 teaspoons of coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil.

After your oils are in the bowl or cup, place the bowl into the hot water. This will allow your oils to melt together. After your coconut oil has liquified, pour the mixture into your storing container. The coconut oil will naturally congeal again in cooler temperatures. If you want it to smooth over quickly, simply place it in the fridge for an hour. After the oils have congealed together, you are done! You now have your own DIY Natural Eye Makeup Remover!
